PictoBlox: Emotion Detectors

This week, Youth4Youth was pleased to be back in ESF South Island School once again to hold a session on PictoBlox, a coding education software that uses both graphical block-based coding and Python programming.

We were able to teach the students how to code their own emotion detector using the camera on their laptops to recognise their face and detect their emotions. It was fantastic to see that the students really enjoyed coding a script to recognise the expressions and emotions of the human face. We then tested the emotion detectors using the students' facial expressions as well as pictures online, before having a thought-provoking group discussion about the practical uses of this technology in real life.
